    The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification has released its yearly school report for Radford University. The report indicates that 90.9 percent of our applicants passed the certification exam for this cycle, up from 72.7 last year. This takes us from 1 point below the national average to 17 points above.   
  Dr. Mark Wagstaff and senior Jessica Rhea were featured in the September 2006 Journal of the Wilderness Education Association. Mark won the Association's first photo contest and published the peer reviewed article, "Honoring Gretta Berglund: The Case for Abilities and Limitations Assessment in Wilderness Leadership Training." Jessica wrote an article, "Wilderness Eating Association," about her experiences on the Wilderness Institute. Read their articles
 
 
  Participants at the National Extension Conference in Burlington, Vermont gave a warm reception to Dr. Teresa O'Bannon and her husband, Patrick. They presented a poster titled, "Tasting Room Temptations: Marketing Beyond the Bar."
 
 
Dr. Susan Van Patten is featured in the new book, Multiple Dwelling and Tourism: Negotiating Place, Home and Identity.  She co-authored a chapter, "Home and Away? Creating Identities and Sustaining Places in a Multicentered World," about her work with seasonal home owners in Northwest Wisconsin. Read the Chapter
The Christopher Reeve Foundation has awarded Dr. Jim Newman a $5,000 quality of life grant to purchase adaptive equipment for the RU Gone Fishing program. The program is designed to help people with traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries enjoy the outdoors.
